The Ann E. Pitzer Center at ٺƵ will be alive with Rodgers and Hammerstein songs when the Department of Music presents “Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music” on Friday, Feb. 8. The screening of the classic Academy Award-winning 1965 musical film features subtitles of the lyrics so the audience can sing along.
Audience members can come costumed as their favorite character: Maria the singing governess, the merry nuns or the sailor-suited von Trapp children.
“’The Sound of Music’ is a classic that means something new to every generation,” said Professor Carol A. Hess, instructor of a Broadway Musical course at ٺƵ. “What could be better than joining our voices in song to celebrate this popular film, the themes of which reflect our culture in so many ways?”
The evening begins with a live pre-show that includes a vocal warm-up, a costume competition, and distribution of an interactive prop bag containing items corresponding with sequences throughout the film.
Launched in the United Kingdom in 1999, “Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music” has played to packed houses with over 10,000 performances in 11 countries.

“Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music” starts on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m at the . Running time is three hours, fifty minutes including an intermission. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and children under 12. They are available at the Mondavi Center Ticket Office in person or by calling 530-754-2787 during the hours of noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Tickets are also available .
