Contemporary Artist Speaks at Lecture Series Thursday, ٺƵ
This Thursday, Dec. 5, the guest speaker is Amelia Jones, the Robert A. Day professor and vice dean of research at the Roski School of Art & Design at University of Southern California. Jones is a curator and scholar of contemporary art, performance, and feminist/sexuality studies. Recent publications include Seeing Differently: A History and Theory of Identification and the Visual Arts (2012); co-edited with Erin Silver, Otherwise: Imagining Queer Feminist Art Histories (2016); and the edited special issue “On Trans/Performance” of Performance Research (2016). Jones is currently working on a retrospective of the work of Ron Athey with accompanying catalogue (Queer Communion: Ron Athey) and a book entitled In Between Subjects: A Critical Genealogy of Queer Performance is forthcoming from NYU Press.
The Visiting Artist Lecture Series will continue in the 2020 winter and spring quarters with Jonathan Calm, Beatriz Cortez, Meg Shiffler and Frances Stark. More details posted .

Lectures will be held in the Community Education Room at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
TANA opens ‘Guerrera’ Friday, also University Chorus; Quartet Sunday
“Guerrera” Exhibition Opening at TANA, 1224 Lemen Ave, Woodland, Friday Dec. 6, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., free
The Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (Art Workshop of the New Dawn) invites you to join Stephany Sanchez for the opening of her "Guerrera" exhibition. Sanchez “...creates woodblock prints that address political views, pay homage to her culture and use Oaxacan folk art as an influence.” The reception will include a woodblock-printing demonstration, as well as music, refreshments, and a sale of prints. University Chorus and Chamber Singers, Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center, ٺƵ, Friday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The University Chorus and Chamber Singers are having their fall concert this Friday, directed by ٺƵ Lecturer in Music and Director of Choirs Caleb Lewis. They will perform seasonal compositions from a variety of composers. The singers will be accompanied by Jeffrey Jubenville on the organ.
The Complete Shostakovich String Quartets — Year Two, Alexander String Quartet 2, Vanderhoef Studio Theater, Mondavi Center, ٺƵ, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The quartet will be presenting pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich, whose musical career mirrored exactly the rise and history of the Soviet Union from 1917 to 1975. Renowned musicologist, author and composer Robert Greenberg will be providing commentary throughout the event.

Mary Chapin Carpenter at Mondavi Sunday
