Emmet Cohen Organ Quartet Thursday night
May 16-18, 7:30 p.m., Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, Mondavi Center, tickets from $45
Emmet Cohen鈥檚 2022 sold-out run in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre was nothing short of electric. So electric, in fact, that Cohen returns just one year later, this time 鈥減lugged in鈥 to a Hammond B-3 with his virtuosic, soulful organ trio. Whatever instrument he鈥檚 playing, Cohen has a unique ability to connect with audiences through his harmonically sophisticated, joyful and open-hearted takes on great tunes. For Cohen playing jazz is 鈥渁bout communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it鈥檚 essentially about connections.鈥
