April 14, noon — Energy prices were already rising before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent them soaring further. At the same time, the crisis is affecting global supplies of fertilizer. What is going on with the markets for fuel and fertilizer, and how do they intersect? How does this translate to the marketplace and consumers, and how will it impact both in the months and years to come? Joining us to discuss these and related questions are two ºÙºÙÊÓƵ economists:
Mark Agerton is an assistant professor in the at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ and a nonresident scholar at the Center for Energy Studies housed at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. Agerton works on issues in energy and resource economics.
Aaron Smith is the Deloach Professor of Agricultural Economics in the at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ. His research addresses policy, trading and price dynamics in agricultural, energy and financial markets.
