What made you choose Davis?

My spouse and I have always loved NorCal. I trained at UCSF and she went to Stanford. We were very happy in Utah over the past 20 years but when the opportunity presented itself to chair such a lauded department at ٺƵ, we were very excited.

What inspires you?

My family, my patients and trying to make the world a better place.

What research are you currently working on? What makes it unique?

I have a breadth of research interests, from understanding the (epi)genetics of sarcomagenesis all the way up to disparities in cancer care affecting adolescents and young adults (AYAs). Both patients with sarcomas and AYAs are underserved.

If you could impart one piece of advice to our undergraduates seeking a course of study/career path, what would it be?

Find your passion and follow it. Your passion can carry you as you face an ever complex and challenging world. Always employ the “golden rule.”

When not in the classroom or conducting research, what do you like to do?

Spend time with my family, preferably outdoors – especially the beach – and trying to slow down the aging process with exercise.

Have you found your favorite spot on campus yet?

I am on the Sacramento campus – my favorite spot is the outdoors between the buildings!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

To alleviate suffering with the wave of a hand. Self-explanatory, I hope.
