6 Degrees: Dance artists past and present

ºÙºÙÊÓƵ dance artists past and present are listed among the performers in two free shows scheduled for Nov. 19 and 20 at the University Club.

Showtime is 8 o’clock both nights. Admission is free; seating is limited. See ticket information below.

Dandelion Dancetheater is presenting the shows, titled 6 Degrees — bringing together dance artists from across California for exchange, collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas.

The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ participants:

Faculty — Della Davidson, professor, and Bobbie Bolden, senior lecturer emeritus, both of the Department of Theatre and Dance.

Master of Fine Arts graduates — Eric Kupers ’04 (co-director of Dandelion Dancetheater), Kerry Mehling ’05, Randee Paufve ’07, Jane Schnorrenberg ’04 and Melissa Wynn ’03

Undergraduate — Tyler Eash

Chris Froh, a lecturer in percussion, is a guest musician.

According to a news release, each performance will start with five-minute pieces from each of the experimental artists and groups. Then, in the second half, Kupers and his Dandelion ensemble will direct all of the 6 Degrees artists in an interdisciplinary swirl of forms, styles, communities and approaches — to create something larger than each individual performance.

Organizers said 6 Degrees, previously presented in Santa Monica, is the first cycle of a long-term project that Dandelion is spearheading to forge connections between disparate strains of the experimental performance community in California.

The next step will be similarly formatted community dance performances in cities across California over the next few years, the organizers said.
