Aggies on the Move announced the fall quarter's Team Challenge crown went to Steppin' on the Peppers with an average step count of 1.37 million in the nine-week competition. That works out to an average daily count of 21,746 steps a day for 63 days.
One other team also topped the 1 million mark: the Red Hot Chili Steppers, averaging 1.28 million steps (or 20,317 steps a day).
Steppin' on the Peppers comprised Terrence Johnson, Nick McLain, Deborah Montero and Linda Myers of the School of Veterinary Medicine's Biological Media Services and Central Services. Montero received team captain honors, for being consistently the best at sending in her team's steps on time.
Team Tres Amigas — Monica Esparta, Yesenia Ramirez and Sandy Lee Wright of Vet Med's Biological Media Services — scored "most improved" honors, boosting their step count by 6.1 percent over the nine-week competition.
Aggies on the Move is the campus walking program, sponsored by Campus Recreation, the Mind Body Wellness Group, WorkLife and Employee Health, and coordinated by Campus Rec's Fitness and Wellness Center.
Team Challenge is now in its fourth year, with the competition taking place every fall and spring. Kendra Densmore, Fitness and Wellness coordinator, said this fall's competition drew the most teams ever: 13 (with a total of 81 participants).
