AGGIES IN NCAA PLAYOFFS

In only its first official season in Division I, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ baseball will compete as one of 64 teams in the 2008 NCAA D-I Baseball Championship. The NCAA announced Monday that the Aggies (34-22 overall) are the No. 4 seed in the Stanford Regional and will begin their tournament play with a game against Stanford University at 5 p.m. May 30. (The Aggies beat the Cardinal in their two games this season.) Coach Rex Peters: "Our players have really moved our program a long way in our first season at the Division I level." In the D-I playoffs nationwide, a total of 16 regionals feature four teams playing a double-elimination format. The ultimate goal is to advance to the College World Series that begins June 14 in Omaha, Neb. On the front: Freshman pitcher Scotty Walker throws off the mound at a May 28 practice. On the inside: Junior catcher Jake Jefferies — the Easton Big West Conference Co-Player of the Year — talks with teammates the same day.
