Fall concert season continues

The Department of Music fall concert calendar concludes next week with four programs, four days in a row, Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.

A free Noon Concert by the Baroque Ensemble is included in the lineup. The ensemble, under the direction of Phebe Craig and Michael Sand, is scheduled to perform at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in 115 Music Building.

The next three concerts are ticketed events, with tickets available through the box office at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. See below for details.

• Concert Band and University of the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble: 1860s and 1960s — A musical exploration of two decades in America — each marred by war, division and tragedy, and distinguished by heroic leaders and great progress for civil rights. Pete Nowlen directs the UC Davis Concert Band, and Eric Hammer directs the UOP Symphonic Wind Ensemble. 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center.

  • Bass — A New Birth of Freedom (Bill Hollingshead, narrator)
  • Holsinger — On an American Spiritual
  • Curnow — JFK in Memoriam
  • Wilson — To Set the Darkness Echoing
  • Reed — Rushmore

• Symphony Orchestra: Chamber Orchestra Works — Mozart's Overture to La clemenza di Tito; Elgar's Sospiri, op. 70; Mahler's Adagietto from Symphony No. 5; and Schubert's Symphony No. 3 in D Major. Christian Baldini, music director and conductor. 7 p.m. Dec. 2, Jackson Hall.

• University Chorus, with Artist-in-Residence Ian Howell, countertenor — Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Missa Brevis; Conte's O Salutaris Hostia and Tantum Ergo; Ortiz's Gallos (premiere); Finzi's "My Lovely One" and "God is Gone Up" from Three Anthems; and Rutter's Musica Dei Donum. Jeffrey Thomas, conductor. 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, Jackson Hall.
