• 1984 -- The Los Angeles-based Actors Gang presents George Orwell’s classic depiction of a world where perpetual war waged against an unseen enemy has become a way of life. 8 p.m. April 1, Jackson Hall.

• Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater -- A distinctly African style of choreography firmly grounded in the rhythms of jazz, blues and gospel music and saturated with an intensity both athletic and spiritual. 8 p.m. March 25 and 26, Jackson Hall. Preperformance lecture by Ruth Rosenberg, program assistant, Mondavi Center Arts Education Program, 7 p.m. March 26, Studio Theatre. School matinee 11 a.m. March 26. The program: Flowers (1971), Episodes (1989) and Revelations (1960).

• Young Artist Competition Winners -- Northern Californians ranging in age from 10 to 17, performing works by Beethoven, Liszt, Mozart, Schumann and more. 2 p.m. March 30, Studio Theatre.

• The Eroica Effect -- Andrew Manze, violinist, conductor and music educator, and the Helsingborg Symphony, performing Beethoven's Eroica symphony and Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1. 8 p.m. April 4, Jackson Hall. Preperformance lecture by Manze on Eroica, 7 p.m., Jackson Hall. School matinee 11 a.m.

• Sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar -- The daughter and pupil of legendary sitar master Ravi Shankar updates her father's legacy for a new generation, mixing traditional Indian sounds with jazz, electronica, contemporary world music and more, and she plays in the traditional style, too. 8 p.m. April 5, Jackson Hall. Preformance lecture by Matthew Grasso, classical guitarist and instructor, Sacramento City College and ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Experimental College, 7 p.m., Studio Theatre.
