The new website also serves as a means of connecting with prospective donors to the Big Ideas, and, by extension, ٺƵ’ second comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Forward-thinking and interdisciplinary, the Big Ideas build upon the university’s strengths in sustainability, food, water, global education, animal and human health, and more — to create innovative and ambitious projects and programs.
“ٺƵ’ Big Ideas have the power to lead transformational discoveries,” said Shaun Keister, vice chancellor of Development and Alumni Relations. In partnership with our donors, we will solve the most pressing problems facing California and the world.”
The university has 13 Big Ideas in all, chosen in a process that started with some 200 submissions. Officials then solicited the opinions of students, staff, faculty, alumni, donors and others.
The Campaign Steering Committee — comprising all permanent deans, select university administrators and the chair of the Academic Senate — reviewed and scored all Big Idea white papers, carefully considered all feedback and determined which ideas should move forward to the next stage.
The new website debuted with individual pages for 10 of the Big Ideas:
- Center for Advancing Pain Relief
- Center for Precision Medicine
- Center for Violence Prevention Research
- Consortium for Innovation in Autism, Community and Technology
- Global Education for All
- Healthy Aging in a Digital World
- Healthy Brain Aging Initiative
- Smart Farm
- Veterinary Medical Center
- Water for the World
Pages will be added soon for the remaining three Big Ideas:
- Carbon Neutrality Leadership Initiative
- Chemistry Discovery Complex
- Global Human Rights
