- Chancellor May named to academy committee on racial justice
- Campus fire crew goes from North Complex, to Glass to Zogg
- It's the poster calendar, only smaller, monthly size, and it's free!
The National Academy of Engineering, or NAE, on Monday (Sept. 28) announced a new Committee on Racial Justice and Equity and named Chancellor Gary S. May as a member. He was elected to the academy in 2018.
The committee of 12, mostly from industry and higher education, will advise the academy president and NAE Council on ways that the engineering community and the NAE can address issues related to racial injustice and inequity.
鈥淣either the NAE nor any other organization can solve all the societal problems associated with racism, prejudice and discrimination, but it is our responsibility to do our best in recommending solutions based on scientific evidence and engineering methods,鈥 said the president, John Anderson.
鈥淐urrent events underscore how critical it is for us to redouble our efforts to include the perspectives of everyone as we build the future world that we want, one in which we are all valued equally. Engineers serve society, and, to be effective, engineers must be aware of societal problems in all dimensions.鈥
Brush Truck 34 reassigned and rerouted
Fire crews around the state haven鈥檛 had a chance to breathe easy for more than a month now, and 嘿嘿视频 firefighters are no exception.
Brush Truck 34, which has been on the road fighting wildfires since Aug. 13, was released Sunday (Sept. 27) from the North Complex Fire in Plumas and Butte counties, only to be immediately reassigned to the Glass Fire in Napa County.
And, then, before they got there, they were rerouted to the Zogg Fire in Shasta County. Cal Fire reported this morning (Sept. 29) that the Zogg fire, which broke out Sunday (Sept. 27), had covered 40,317 acres and that crews had not yet contained any part of it.
The poster calendar, downsized
Working at home, don鈥檛 have a place to display the campus poster calendar? How about a smaller size, one month to a page? .
It features the same artwork of campus icons (by Steven Noble 鈥90) that adorn the poster calendar 鈥 like Gunrock for October.
The poster calendars themselves are on sale at the Campus Store and the Downtown Store. Or, you can order online.
