Coffee and a workout
University Dining Services by Sodexo announced a Feb. 24 grand opening for a Sodexo-licensed Starbucks store in the Activities and Recreation Center.
A Sodexo spokesman said the grand opening event will begin at 10 a.m. with live entertainment on the ARC patio outside the Starbucks. A ribbon-cutting is planned at 10:15, and complimentary fair trade coffee will be served from 10:15 to 10:45.
Initial operating hours for the ARC Starbucks are 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Where to pay at the ARC
A new Business Center opened this week in the Activities and Recreation Center, with Business Center staff taking payments for many Campus Recreation programs — including ARC memberships, climbing wall and group exercise passes, instruction, personal training, and locker rental and towel services.
The Business Center also processes payments for Aggies on the Move program kits, intramural sports and the California Aggie Marching Band-uh.
The Business Center is on the first floor next to the Fitness and Wellness Center. Business Center hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. When the center is closed, people may visit the ARC Pro Shop to buy ARC day passes and climbing wall passes, and to pay for group fitness classes.
In future phases, the Business Center will accept payments for youth activities, Rec Pool and Hickey Pool passes, the Craft Center and the Equestrian Center, and Outdoor Adventures.
Fire training postponed
The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Fire Department has postponed a training exercise a third time due to wet conditions. The department and neighboring fire agencies are planning to burn down an old house — one that the university planned to demolish anyway.
The exercise on UC property west of Highway 113 had been scheduled originally for Jan. 27, then Feb. 13 and 17, and now is tentatively set for the second week of March.
