To the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ community:
I know that many of you are concerned by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ recent announcement that the department will review Title IX policy related to sexual assault and sexual harassment on college campuses. I share those concerns.
The safety and well-being of our ºÙºÙÊÓƵ community means everything to me. The existing Title IX policy provides protections for students across the country when they experience sexual violence on their campuses. This review is a potential step backwards.
Here at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, we are guided by federal and state law and our own university policy related to handling reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment. We will continue to respond promptly and effectively to allegations of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking and other forms of sexual harassment.
To make a report about sexual violence or sexual harassment, you can contact our Title IX officer directly at 530-752-9466 or wjdelmendo@ucdavis.edu or the (HDAPP) at 530-747-3864. If you would like to consult with a confidential resource about your options, the (CARE) offers confidential resources for any student, faculty or staff who have experienced sexual violence or sexual harassment. Information about additional resources is available at .
ºÙºÙÊÓƵ is a place of compassion and fairness. I am committed to a fair adjudication process for all parties, while ensuring that ºÙºÙÊÓƵ will never relent in the fight against sexual violence.
Sincerely,
Gary S. May
Chancellor
