The Coffee House will stay open for a while longer, Director Sharon Coulson announced this week.
But the bidding process, to select a contractor, is taking longer than expected, Coulson explained.
That means the CoHo will stay open in its existing location, in the Memorial Union's west wing, until 4:30 p.m. Aug. 12, before moving to temporary quarters in the east wing.
Opening day in the east wing is set for Aug. 17, Coulson said. The east wing quarters will not duplicate everything that you can get in the real CoHo, but Coulson and her staff will do their best — considering they will be in temporary quarters and working out of a temporary kitchen (in a modular building outside the MU).
Here is what you will find, and where you will find it, in the east wing, come Aug. 17:
Pizza — In the space formerly occupied by the post office. The post office has moved to the Smith Room on the MU's second floor. The PO boxes are still on the first floor, outside the STA Travel office, down the hall from the former post office.
Convenience market — In the book buyback room, across from the former post office. The book buyback room moves down the hall to the MU’s East Conference Room.
Deli — In the space formerly occupied by Classical Notes-Campus Copies. The notes shop moves to 21 Lower Freeborn Hall (across from the barber shop). The copy shop moves to 13 Lower Freeborn, replacing AS PAPERs (Associated Students Providing Alternative Publications Equal Resources). AS PAPERs goes to 1230 Haring Hall.
Bakery and coffee bar — In the space formerly occupied by the Aggie Student Store. The student store will not be in business in 2009-10. The bookstore’s Corral shop remains.
Espresso bar — In Room 163 (the old, old post office).
The CoHo plans to set up a grilling tent on the south side of the MU. Coulson said the tent crew will serve tacos (with grilled chicken) and grilled corn on the cob. In addition, the tent staff may prepare tri-tip sandwiches on Fridays.
