FOOD, ETC: A humorous evening with winery owner Jan Shrem

winery owner Jan Shrem is the next person with whom you can spend an evening, thanks to the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

The institute is sponsoring two events with Shrem on Nov. 5: his humorous presentation on the intertwining of wine and art through the ages, followed by a private wine pairing dinner, with separate tickets required.

Here are the details for An Evening with Jan Shrem:

Lecture 鈥 A multimedia presentation titled 鈥淏acchus the Rascal: A Bacchanalian History of Wine Seen through 4,000 Years of Art.鈥 5:30 p.m., Sensory Theatre.

Shrem鈥檚 program, the result of a quarter of a century of research, begins with the birth of the grape and the origin of wine as illustrated in Egyptian tomb paintings and Roman mosaics.

The presentation then meanders through more than 100 wine-related images from such artists as DaVinci, Rembrandt, Dali, Picasso and Chagall, finishing with a contemporary homage to wine.

The presentation has been given hundreds of times, at such places as the National Press Club in Washington, the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and the California Club in Los Angeles.

Private wine pairing dinner 鈥 7:30 p.m., Seasons Restaurant, Davis.

Tickets for the lecture only are $35 for the public, or $20 for Friends of the RMI and 嘿嘿视频 affiliates. Tickets are $60 for the dinner only, and $80 for the lecture and dinner. Note: A limited number of $20 lecture tickets are available.
