FREE WHEELIN' AUCTION

ºÙºÙÊÓƵ workers recently swept through campus to gather abandoned bicycles, cutting them free from their locks and freeing valuable parking slots. Here, bicycle program assistant Scott Hutchinson, right, and student assistant Giang Ngo unload another truckload. The bikes added to a collection in the hundreds, many of which are due to go up for auction Oct. 6. The auction of some 350 bicycles is set to take place in the west entry garage off Hutchison Drive just east of La Rue Road. Viewing is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with the sale scheduled to begin at 9. If past history is any indication, most bikes will sell for $20 or $30, said David Takemoto-Weerts, bicycle program coordinator for Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS.
