Happy holidays for kids, families and pets (and the chancellor, too)

Santa Claus made an early visit to 嘿嘿视频 on Dec. 7, coming here at the Fire Department's request to hand out candy canes at the campus's day care centers and in family housing for students. Firefighters also escorted Santa to see Chancellor Linda P.B.

For the kids, we have toy drives on the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

For families, we have a holiday food drive.

For dogs and cats, we have pictures with Santa Paws!

Toys for Tots

Administrative and Resource Management is hosting the Toys for Tots drive, seeking unwrapped gifts for children from infancy through age 14.

The drive runs through Dec. 15. ARM has set up collection barrels in and around the central campus:

  • ARM vice chancellor鈥檚 office, 376 Mrak Hall
  • Police-Fire Building, Kleiber Hall Drive
  • ARM Human Resources-Payroll Shared Services Center, 1050 Extension Center Drive
  • Information and Educational Technology, 3820 Chiles Road
  • Safety Services, 276 Hoagland Hall
  • Human Resources Administration Building, Orchard Road just west of La Rue Road
  • Accounting and Financial Services, 1441 Research Park Drive
  • Materiel Management, 3215 Apiary Drive
  • Facilities Services Building, California Avenue, north of La Rue Road
  • Humanities Institute, 229 Voorhies Hall

Organizers said all donations will stay in Yolo County, to be distributed by the Marine Corps League, Yolo County Detachment 627, based in Woodland.

'Drive'-through at the medical center

The 嘿嘿视频 Medical Center is running its own toy drive鈥 and it really is a 鈥渄rive,鈥 as in a drive-through for gift giving.

"We really appreciate all our donors and wanted to make gift-giving easier,鈥 said Anthony F. Philipps, medical director of the 嘿嘿视频 Children鈥檚 Hospital. 鈥淥ur donors' thoughtfulness will make an important difference in the lives of many families who have a sick child during the holiday season.鈥

The drive-through 鈥 for toys and other gifts 鈥 is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 17 and Dec. 20 to 23, in the circular driveway at the 嘿嘿视频 MIND Institute, 2825 50th St., Sacramento. Organizers said a medical center representative will greet donors and accept their donations.

Donated toys must be new, organizers said, adding that they cannot accept event slightly used toys, because of infection-control precautions.

Campus Rec's holiday food drive

Campus Recreation is running a holiday food drive through Dec. 15 at three locations: the Activities and Recreation Center, the Craft Center and Outdoor Adventures. At each location, look in the lobby for a donation bin with a red bow.

Acceptable goods include canned foods (stew, chili, soup), tuna and canned meat, peanut butter, low-sugar cereals, 100 percent fruit juice, canned fruit in juice, and canned vegetables. Please, no perishable or frozen items, and nothing in glass.

Campus Rec plans to turn over all donations to the Food Bank of Yolo County.

Santa Paws is coming to town

Veterinary students said Santa Paws will be available for picture-taking with your pets this weekend 鈥 in an annual fundraiser for the student-run , which provides care for the pets of homeless people.

Santa Paws hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Arden Animal Hospital, 1823 Fulton Ave., Sacramento. You can arrange an appointment by calling the Arden vet hospital, (916) 485-5412; walk-ins also are welcome.

Second-year veterinary student Brendan Boostrom, fundraiser coordinator, said a $25 donation will cover the cost of the photo shoot and one image in a holiday card, plus free access to the photographer's website, for downloading your pet's photo.

The Santa Paws event also will include the sale of homemade pet treats.
