Cody Kitaura will serve as editor of Dateline ºÙºÙÊÓƵ effective June 30, the Office of Strategic Communications announced today.
Kitaura, who since 2014 has written features, event coverage, administrative news and more for Dateline and ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Magazine in the Office of Strategic Communications, replaces Dave Jones, who this month is retiring after nearly 18 years with ºÙºÙÊÓƵ.
Jones joined Dateline as the associate editor when the newsletter was still in print, and assisted with its transition to digital and the launch of its weekly email, Friday Update. As the print Dateline was discontinued, that email switched to a Tuesday publication date and became the main hub for Dateline news.
Prior to joining ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, Dateline’s new editor worked as a public information officer with the California State Board of Equalization and a local editor with Patch, a news startup then owned by AOL. While there he launched one neighborhood news site in Sacramento and oversaw various others around the region.
Kitaura earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Sacramento State, and has served on the board of directors for the Sacramento chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association since 2011. He is a graduate of that organization’s Executive Leadership Program.
Dateline ºÙºÙÊÓƵ is the Davis campus’s online faculty-staff newsletter, and publishes a weekly email during the academic year. , as can other news published between issues.
