This column offers a sampling of honors recently awarded to ºÙºÙÊÓƵ faculty, staff and units:
Joaquin Galvan, a retention coordinator with the Learning Skills Center at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, was recently chosen by the Mexican American Concilio of Yolo County for its highest honor, the annual Rick Gonzales Sr. Award. Galvan, who earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, was recognized for his extensive work every year with hundreds of Latino and other students.
Philip Kass, a professor of epidemiology and chair of the Department of Population Health and Reproduction in the School of Veterinary Medicine, recently received the school’s 2009 teaching award from his faculty peers. The award recognizes Kass’ outstanding work in delivering knowledge to his students.
The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Center for Community School Partnerships was part of the Oct. 29 celebration on the state Capitol steps to spotlight after-school programs and their benefits to working families and the economy. The unit manages the network in charge of after-school programs.
