* Oct. 12, Friday -- Wing Thye Woo, professor of economics and one of the foremost experts on the Chinese financial landscape, will address "The Economic Geography of Growth in China" at the first lecture in a ºÙºÙÊÓƵ series on contemporary issues in Pacific Rim countries. Woo's research for decades has focused on China economic development and U.S. policy toward China, and he has traveled extensively in that country. His advice is sought by leading international organizations including the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. He has served as special adviser to former treasury secretary Robert Rubin, accompanying the secretary to a meeting with China's president in 1997. Sponsored by the Institute of Governmental Affairs, the lecture will take place 12:10-1:15 p.m. in the IGA Reading Room, 360 Shields Library on the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ campus.
