Marx was one of several members of the faculty from both the Davis and Sacramento campuses who responded to the provost’s October call for expressions of interest in the position.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our growing urban campus in Sacramento,” Marx said. He noted his 2018-19 fellowship through the American Council on Education — a year during which he focused on the role that universities can play as institutional anchors for their neighborhoods. “I look forward to bringing what I’ve learned to the collaborative effort of launching new research and teaching programs at Aggie Square,” he said.

Marx’s responsibilities include building and growing the inventory of potential academic programs that may benefit from a presence in Aggie Square. He will serve as Aggie Square’s faculty liaison and work closely with the rest of the Aggie Square team.

Marx’s appointment will start with the New Year and run initially until June 30, 2021. He will continue as chair of the English department until June 30, 2020.
