After the ‘rain’ comes the ‘fog’

Canada’s Cirque Éloize presented Rain at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts in 2005 and 2007, and returns this month with a new show titled Nebbia (which means “fog” in Italian), a blend of theatrics, modern circus arts, acrobatics (as pictured here) and music. The troupe plans four performances in Jackson Hall: 7 p.m. April 21-23, and a school matinee at 11 a.m. April 22 (ticket availability is limited for the school matinee; call the box office for information).

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, with mezzosoprano Stephanie Blythe — American chamber music, highlighted by Alan Louis Smith’s new Vignettes: Covered Wagon Woman. In this quartet for voice, piano, violin and cello, Blythe portrays pioneer Margaret Frink, giving a poignant musical voice to her journey west. The program also includes includes John Antes’ String Trio in D Minor, op.3; Amy Beach’s Piano Quintet in F-Sharp Minor, op. 67; and George Gershwin’s Lullaby for String Quartet. 8 p.m. April 24, Jackson Hall. Preperformance lecture, with Blythe, Smith and ٺƵ musicologist Chris Reynolds, 7 p.m., Studio Theatre.

Debut Series — Sasha Cooke, American mezzosoprano, equally at home in operatic, orchestral, and recital settings. 8 p.m. April 25 and 2 p.m. April 26, Studio Theatre.

Opera a la Carte: Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers Comic opera, with live orchestra. 8 p.m. April 25 and 2 p.m. April 26, Jackson Hall.

Oklahoma! — a centennial event

The university announced a half-price ticket deal for the opening weekend matinee performance of Oklahoma! — which is being presented as a ٺƵ Centennial event, by the departments of Theatre and Dance, and Music. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is scheduled to be performed at 8 p.m. May 2, 8 and 9, and 2 p.m. May 3 and 10 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center.

Tickets for the May 3 matinee are $12, $14 or $16 for adults; and $8, $10 and $12 for students and children. Prices for the other performances are $20, $24 and $28 for adults, and $12, $16 and $20 for students and children.
