Aggies On the Move, the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ walking program, is stepping out for spring with group walks and a Team Challenge.
The March 31-June 12 challenge is for teams of three to 10 members, each of whom must be an Aggies On the Move member.
Teams must register by March 31. Then, start walking. The team with the most steps by June 12 wins a perpetual plaque plus individual prizes.
A total of 12 group walks are scheduled for spring, each starting at 12:15 p.m., with new member registration at noon before each walk. Organizers announced four starting points, with three walks from each location:
- Research Park, breezeway between ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Extension and the University Services Building in south Davis. April 8, May 13 and June 10.
- Memorial Union, flagpole on the south side. April 9, May 14 and June 11.
- Mrak Hall, south entrance. April 10, May 8 and June 12.
- Health Sciences District, south side of Tupper Hall. April 9, May 14 and June 11.
The $5 membership fee buys you a pedometer and a logbook.
At every group walk, participants will be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a 30-minute massage, a quarterly intensive group fitness pass or a personal training assessment. Also, prizes will be awarded to people who bring new members.
All Aggies On the Move are eligible for incentives: T-shirt for 250,000 steps; white anklet socks, 500,000; visor, 750,000; and visor pins for 1 million, 2 million and 3 million steps.
Nordic walking class
Also for spring, Campus Recreation's Fitness and Wellness unit announced a Nordic walking class that "combines the positive training effects of walking with the total-body exercise advantages of cross-country skiing."
Three sessions are planned, with each comprising three meetings, all from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Meeting place is the Fitness and Wellness Center at the Activities and Recreation Center.
- Session 1 -- April 14, 21 and 28
- Session 2 -- May 6, 13 and 20
- Session 3 -- June 3, 10 and 17
"The class is great for those who love to walk but want more, who want to reduce impact to their joints, who need more stability when they walk," organizers said.
The cost is $25, and ARC membership is not required. Equipment is provided.
