The Department of Music’s end-of-quarter concert schedule includes the University and Alumni choruses and Symphony Orchestra performing Brahms’ Requiem, and a Concert Band program that draws on great works of 19th-century American literature.

• — The University and Alumni choruses, with the Davis Chorale, and the Symphony Orchestra. 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12, Jackson Hall, .
• — The Concert Band will perform Ferde Grofé’s Mississippi Suite (including Huckleberry Finn, based on Mark Twain’s novel of the same name), Tyler Grant’s Resplendent Light, derived from Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, chapter 10) and Francis McBeth’s Of Sailors and Whales, with each movement preceded by a brief reading from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick (the readings will be delivered by band members). 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, Jackson Hall.
• — The Gold Band will play some of the Count Basie Orchestra’s classic music, including “Fantail,” ”Whirly Bird,” ”Rompin' at the Reno” and “The Wiggle Walk.” A highlight of the evening will be the Vanguard and Blue bands playing selections from Kenny Wheeler’s “Sweet Time Suite,” an eight-movement work divided between the two ensembles. Guest Steve Roach, trumpet, will perform with all three bands. 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, Recital Hall.
