New ASAP programs: Stress resilience during tough economic times

The Academic and Staff Assistance Program announced two new programs on stress resilience.

One program is for general staff: “Stress Resilience During Tough Economic Times.”

The other is for managers, supervisors and faculty: “Stress Resilience and Effective Leadership in Times of Change.”

Each 90-minute program is scheduled for presentation five times, starting next week, with preregistration required. More sessions may be added if there is demand.

Staff program

Organizers said this program will define chronic survival stress and typical stress reactions.

“It will highlight the biological and behavioral effects of chronic levels of stress and create a strong framework for understanding how the chronic stress reaction can negatively affect an individual’s lifestyle, work, personal relationships and health.”

The presentation also will focus on tools for coping with uncertainty, self-care techniques, as well as ٺƵ and community resources that are available to help you reduce your stress.

Managers, supervisors and faculty

Organizers said one of their goals with this program is to help managers, supervisors and faculty understand people’s experiences with environmental stressors—their own experiences and those of the people whom they supervise.

“It will highlight the physical, emotional and behavioral fallout from chronic levels of stress and build an understanding of how the chronic stress reaction often
affects many aspects of an individual’s life.”

Other topics: leadership empowerment, self-care, assessing employee problems, leadership styles, and additional techniques that can be employed to reduce
departmental stress and conflict.
