The UC Board of Regents last week appointed Timothy P. White as the UC Riverside chancellor, effective on or before Sept. 1. He now serves as president of the University of Idaho.
He replaces France A. Córdova, who left Riverside last summer to become president of Purdue University. Former ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Provost Robert D. Grey has been serving as Riverside's interim chancellor.
White, an Argentine immigrant and naturalized U.S. citizen, is a first-generation college student in his family. He attended all three branches of California's higher education system: Diablo Valley Community College; California State University, Fresno (B.A.); CSU Hayward, now called CSU East Bay (M.A.) and UC Berkeley (Ph.D.).
His academic background is in physiology, kinesiology and human biodynamics, and he is internationally recognized for his work in muscle plasticity, injury and aging.
He has held faculty appointments at the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley and Oregon State University, where he served as provost and executive vice president, and as president on an interim basis, before joining the University of Idaho as president in August 2004.
