Twenty-two attorneys from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), Brazil, an international leader in energy production and alternative energy solutions, are studying at the School of Law this month.
The program, offered through the School of Law and ٺƵ Extension’s Center for International Education, began April 16 and continues through April 27, as part of a long-standing relationship between Petrobras and ٺƵ.
More than 145 Petrobras attorneys have participated in 15 such programs since 2006.
The training meets the specific request of Petrobras for legal education with an explicit focus on U.S. contract law and dispute resolution. Leading attorneys from around the world with expertise in energy law are presenting and discussing case studies as well as simulations from the energy industry.
Beth Greenwood, executive director of the International Programs at the law school, said the Petrobras program is aimed at increasing participants’ understanding and ability to use legal terminology within the context of the U.S. legal system.
“By increasing their understanding of appropriate technical language and effective dispute resolution strategies, these attorneys increase their ability to arbitrate and work within the framework of U.S. contract law, an essential component of doing business in and with the United States,” she said.
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work

TODS, a national event, offers all children the opportunity to see their parents and mentors at work, to see how they contribute to society. At ٺƵ, TODS has the added benefit of exposing children to higher education — by inviting them to the campus and presenting a variety of activities.
For lunch, you can take the kids to the Segundo, Tercero or Cuarto dining halls, for $2 (with coupon available).
TODS registration is being taken . Some events are limited in space.
We’re big donors: 1,024 pints
“We did it again!” The campus community donated more than 1,000 pints of blood in this week’s two-day ASUCD Blood and Marrow Drive, says Brie Leon of the Sacramento-based BloodSource.
“The gorgeous weather helped encourage students to walk out to our new location (The Pavilion at the ARC) and show their support for saving lives,” Leon said.
She said 1,322 people registered for the blood draw, and 1,024 ended up as donors (with the others excluded for various reasons). The blood draw brought in 364 new donors.
