The campus has been encouraging faculty, staff, and students to use eduroam instead of moobilenetx for the past year. IT directors have received lists of campus constituents still using moobilenetx, as well as tools to help migrate their users to eduroam.

“It is our goal to make the disconnect a minor event and have many of the users off of moobilenetx in advance of the retirement date,” said Chris Clements, network operations manager.

ٺƵ started using moobilenetx as its main wireless network 10 years ago.

Aggies win 5th consecutive Causeway Cup

The Causeway Classic is football only, between ٺƵ and Sacramento State. The takes into account all sports between the university rivals — and ٺƵ is the winner for the fifth consecutive year. The Aggies captured the 2016-17 cup by a score of 65-15.

The scoring system allots 5 points for each sport in which ٺƵ and Sacramento State play each other. If they play once in a year, the winner gets all 5 points. If they play more than once, the points are divided by the number of matches; so, for example, if they play twice in a year, each match is worth 2.5 points.

After splitting the first four head-to-head events this season, ٺƵ quickly distanced itself from Sacramento State by winning 12 consecutive contests — the Aggies’ longest win streak in the cup’s history — for 47.5 points, 7 points more than the 40.5 needed to clinch the title.

HVAC shutdown over the long weekend

Campus will shut down heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in nonlaboratory spaces during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Saturday through Monday (May 27-29). This is standard practice on long weekends.

Most recently, the campus shut down nonlaboratory HVAC systems in 50 buildings (1.7 million square feet) during the Cesar Chavez Holiday weekend, Friday through Sunday, March 31-April 2. It was a mild weekend, weather-wise, and still the campus saved roughly $28,000 in energy costs, or enough energy to power Mrak Hall for five months.

The is interested in seeing how much more savings can be achieved during the warmer days of the Memorial Day weekend.
