Dell Computer settlement

The campus counsel’s office is offering to help ٺƵ departments in getting what they may be owed from settlements in two lawsuits against Dell Computer Corp.

The settlements provide refunds for incorrectly paid sales or use taxes on the purchase of certain computer hardware service contracts sold by Dell from April 8, 1999, to June 30, 2008.

Settlement notices recently went out to customers who may be eligible for refunds, based on Dell’s sales records.

Class members in Mohan, et al. v. Dell Inc., et al. Class Action (case Nos. CGC 03-419192 and CJC-05-00442), heard in San Francisco Superior Court, must file claims electronically on or before May 29, 2013; each notice provides an individual password, claim number and precalculated tax overpayment.

UC officials said some of the refund amounts are quite small, and the process of filing a claim electronically can be cumbersome for people unfamiliar with the website. Therefore, ٺƵ departments are welcome to forward their notices for processing by the campus counsel’s office. Refunds would then be sent to the address on each notice.

Deliver notices to the Office of the Campus Counsel, 230 Mrak Hall, or send as a PDF by email to Lynette Temple, director of legal affairs, lstemple@ucdavis.edu
