Campus officials issued an update on the Sept. 28 closure of the south entry paraking garage and two roads in the vicinity of the Mondavi Center, where gubernatorial candidates Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman are due to participate in a debate that night.
The closures are necessary to accommodate more than 100 media representatives and more than a dozen TV satellite trucks.
The south entry garage will be closed through the morning and afternoon, with people being advised to use Lots 1 and 2 instead. They are just south of the garage.
Campus officials previously announced that Mrak Hall Drive (between old Davis Road and Mrak Hall) and Alumni Lane (on the north and east sides of Vanderhoef Quad, in front of the Mondavi Center) will be closed from about 4 p.m. to midnight.
Now, officials are advising that Mrak Hall Drive may be closed as early as 2 p.m. If you use Lot 3 (between Mrak and King halls), and you exit the lot after Mrak Hall Drive is closed, you will be detoured along Old Davis Road to A Street.
To avoid late-afternoon traffic delays, faculty, staff and students are being urged to consider the day of the debate.
