The students behind Picnic Day on Thursday (Nov. 21) announced a theme and parade marshal for the annual campus open house.

Picnic Day 111 will carry the theme of “Welcome to Wonderland” and highlight Laci Gerhart, an associate professor of teaching in the Department of Evolution and Ecology, as the parade marshal. The student-run event will take place on April 12.

“Picnic Day is a magical time for the ٺƵ campus and community, and we want to show it off in our theme,” a news release quoted Picnic Day Vice Chair Rishita Dwivedi as saying.

The board said the wonderland theme “represents the spectacle that the ٺƵ campus becomes with the variety of live events, exhibits and activities.”

Picnic Day Chair Mina Sarmah encouraged community members “to experience the excitement of our community on Picnic Day.”

Gerhart highlighted for impact on students

In choosing Gerhart for the parade marshal role, the board said it wanted to draw attention to the faculty member’s “ability to brighten her students' days and make an impact on people around campus.”

Dwivedi called her a “fun and kind soul in and out of the classroom.”
