The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Police and Fire departments will hold a series of training exercises for an active shooter event during the winter break. The exercises will take place Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 15, 17 and 19, from about 8 a.m. to noon at the Memorial Union on campus.

Expect to see police and fire vehicles and activity in the area. The exercises will include simulated gunshots and volunteers made up as victims.

The goal of the exercises is for police and fire to practice rapid response to an active shooter incident, including entering and clearing buildings and evacuating casualties. Memorial Union staff will also practice their active shooter response, including evacuating staff and patrons.

The Memorial Union will be closed on Sunday due to winter break. The Games Area will be closed until noon on Tuesday (Dec. 17), but other areas will be open. On Thursday (Dec. 19), portions of the MU first and second floor will be closed until noon, but the Stores, Games Area, Lower Freeborn and Coffee House will all be open.
