The Department of Music will hold a public information session May 9 on the three architectural designs under consideration for the new Classroom and Recital Hall building.
The session will be held in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre immediately following the Shinkoskey Noon Concert that day. Clayton Halliday, campus architect, will discuss each of the three designs. A survey inviting feedback on each design is available .
The Classroom and Recital Hall building is envisioned to offer concert seating for 375 people while providing a home for chamber and solo music performances and addressing the need for new classroom space. Since the construction of the current Music Building in 1966, the number of undergraduate majors in the music department has increased from 11 to 150, and the number of faculty members from 6 to 39. Also, the hall is expected to increase collaborations among the music department, Mondavi Center, and other programs. The hall will be located next to the music building as part of the new “arts district.”
