Team Challenge returns
The Aggies on the Move Team Challenge is back for the spring quarter. Aggies on the Move is the 嘿嘿视频 walking program, encouraging everyone in the campus community to walk, walk, walk, not simply to get from Point A to Point B, but as part of a healthy lifestyle. Participants receive incentive prizes for every 250,000 steps.
Some people do their walking alone, some go in groups that they set up themselves. And twice a year, in the fall and spring quarters, a lot of people walk in teams on the Davis and Sacramento campuses, in the Aggies on the Move Team Challenge.
It is a friendly competition, and there is no entry fee. Registration for the spring challenge is set to begin March 22 and continue until April 2 via e-mail: arc@campusrec.ucdavis.edu. The spring challenge dates are April 5 to May 28. The name of the winning team is engraved on a perpetual plaque, and team members receive gifts.
Aggies on the Move, sponsored by Campus Recreation, the Mind Body Wellness Group and Employee Health, is open to all members of the 嘿嘿视频 community: students, staff, faculty, retirees and alumni.
New members may register at any time: Walk to the Fitness and Wellness Center at the Activities and Recreation Center, pay your $5 fee (for a pedometer and a logbook), and you鈥檙e all set. (ARC membership is not required.)
Couch to 5K training
Campus Recreation is once again offering its Couch to 5K training program for people interested in walking or running in their first five-kilometer event, or perhaps a 10K. Experienced trainers and coaches are set to lead the eight-week program from April 6 to May 27. Training sessions are scheduled every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m., with participants expected to attend at least one session a week.
Registration closes April 9 at the ARC鈥檚 front desk; the cost is $25. For more information, contact Kendra Densmore, (530) 752-3882 or kkdensmore@ucdavis.edu.
Summer camps
Parents: Are you interested in registering your children for Campus Recreation鈥檚 summer programs, but have not mailed in the forms yet? Then tomorrow (March 20) would be a good time to deliver them in person.
You can do so from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rec Pool Lodge, at the northwest corner of Hutchison Drive and La Rue Road. At 10 a.m. Campus Rec will start filling its programs from among the forms that have come in by mail and from among the forms that people have dropped off.
Phone-in registration is set to begin at 8 a.m. March 22, at (530) 754-4304. There is no online registration.
Camps for children and teens are scheduled from June 21 to Aug. 20. Swimming lessons begin earlier, with a spring session (May 3-27), to be followed by five two-week sessions from June 14 to Aug. 19.
The summer Youth Programs Guide, including registration form, is available online: (click on 鈥淵outh Programs,鈥 then 鈥淪ummer Camps鈥).
Boredom Busters
Campus Recreation is offering parents a way to turn their children鈥檚 restlessness over spring break into a week of exploration and adventure during Boredom Busters, this year featuring a Winter Olympics theme.
Boredom Busters, for grades kindergarten through 6, is scheduled from April 5 to 9. Activities may include horseback riding, hiking, rock wall climbing, and arts and crafts.
Full- and half-day programs are available, for $195 or $135 for students and ARC members, or $210 and $145 for others. Registration: Call (530) 754-4304.
