Andres Bermudez Jr., a field technician for ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, drives a tractor receiving a load of freshly picked tomatoes at the Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility on Oct. 1. Organizers estimated that about 550 tons of tomatoes were amassed during four days of machine harvesting. Some tomatoes will go to support the research at Russell Ranch and others will be gleaned for non-profit organizations and food banks in the area, according to Emma Torbert, a post-graduate fellow working on Russell Ranch, which conducts long-term research on the sustainability of different crops.
