ºÙºÙÊÓƵ is on the run in September and October -- or you can jog or walk -- for several good causes (including your own good health):

DOG 'N' JOG AND RUN FOR RABIES

Organized by students in the School of Veterinary Medicine to raise awareness of human and animal rabies worldwide, with proceeds going to the Global Alliance for Rabies Control and the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

The Sept. 28 event comprises the Run for Rabies, five or 10 kilometers, and the 1.5-mile Dog 'n' Jog, a fun walk or jog for you and your pooch, plus the Puppy Palooza: Animal Health and Craft Fair.

Organizers said activities will be centered outside Gladys Valley Hall, northeast of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, and the runs and jog will go through the nearby arboretum. The Run for Rabies is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. and the Dog 'n' Jog at 10:30. Check-in starts at 7 a.m.

Registration: , until 11:59 p.m. Sept. 26, for $10 for the Dog 'n' Jog, and $25 for the 5K and 10K Run for Rabies. Add $5 for on-site registration.

WALK NOW FOR AUTISM

Two- to three-mile walk, plus a community resource fair, Sept. 28, at the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ MIND Institute, 2825 50th St., Sacramento.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

Organized by the Davis campus's Buildings and Grounds Division to show that "our health as individuals is inextricably tied to the health of our environment." Proceeds go to the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Vascular Center, the American Stroke Association, and Buildings and Grounds, which intends to put its share toward tree plantings.

Run for Your Lives, scheduled for Oct. 12, comprises five- and 10K run-walks (8 a.m.), and a Kids Fun Run (10 a.m.), plus the Heart and Tree Health Pavilion at Toomey Field (along A Street).

Registration: , $10-$25 through Sept. 26, $12-$27 through midnight Oct. 9. Add $2 for on-site registration. Check-in at Toomey Field starts at 7 a.m. for the 5K and 10K run-walks, and 9:45 a.m. for the Kids Fun Run.
