Safety training classes offered

The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Police Department will hold two training classes next week on how to respond during a shooting incident. The classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 1 and 2 in the Emergency Operations Center, part of the Transportation and Parking Services and auxiliary police building opposite Hutchison Field.

The classes are primarily intended for volunteers taking part in the major police, fire and emergency management exercise on Sept. 16. Other members of the campus community are welcome to attend as space allows. Participants must register in advance by contacting Mary Macias, memacias@ucdavis.edu.

Anyone interested in volunteering to take part in the Sept. 16 exercise should also contact Macias.

The Police Department began offering the "active shooter" community training class in 2007. It includes advice on how to escape and hide, make an effective 911 call and describe a suspect to police, and how to recognize opportunities to seize a weapon or overpower a gunman.
