Staff Assembly on the Davis campus is preparing once again to recognize staff in a couple of ways:
• Citations for Excellence, given annually in conjunction with the Thank Goodness for Staff celebration.
• Scholarships for staff and staff dependents.
Citations for Excellence are given to individuals and teams for outstanding achievement in three categories: general contributions, campus service and supervision. Nominations are welcome from staff who work with or for the nominees.
The Staff Assembly Scholarship Program selects award recipients based on academic potential, community service and financial need.
The staff scholarships are for career employees who are or will be enrolled in any college, university or professional school, for the purpose of obtaining a certificate, or associate’s, bachelor’s or graduate degree.
All applicants for staff scholarships from Staff Assembly also may be eligible for an award from the Retirees Association.
Applicants for Staff Assembly’s dependent scholarships must be enrolled or planning to enroll as undergraduates at ºÙºÙÊÓƵ in 2009-10.
Jesse Avitia, chair of Staff Assembly’s Scholarship Committee, said award recipients are not eligible to receive funds two years in a row. Also, contract employees are not eligible.
The Margene Orzalli Memorial Fund has been paying for staff scholarships since 1981.
Staff Assembly began giving scholarships to staff dependents three years ago. The money comes from donations and fundraising efforts, including the sale of Staff Assembly lapel pins.
The Citation for Excellence nomination form and scholarship application forms are available . Citation for Excellence nominations are due by March 30; scholarship applications are due by April 30.
