STAFF ASSEMBLY: Scholarships and Citations for Excellence

Staff Assembly is taking applications for staff and staff dependent scholarships, and nominations for the Citation for Excellence program — which includes some changes for 2011.

Scholarship programs

The staff scholarship application is actually a dual application, in that everyone who applies for the Staff Assembly scholarships is also considered for a staff scholarship program administered by the Retirees Association (which prefers that awardees be armed service veterans).

Both programs are for career staff who will be working toward a certificate or degree (associate, bachelor or graduate) from a college, university or professional school in 2011-12.

Funding for the Staff Assembly scholarships comes from the Margene Orzalli Memorial Fund and the Vanderhoef Scholarship Endowment.

Staff Assembly’s other scholarship program is for staff members’ dependents who will be attending ٺƵ as an undergraduate in 2011-12. This program is supported by donations and fundraising, including the sale of Staff Assembly pins.

For all scholarships — staff and dependent — the recipients will be chosen on the basis of school, work, self-improvement, demonstration and commitment to community service, and other worthy merits, as well as financial need.

Organizers said award recipients are not eligible to receive funds two years in a row, in order to allow others an equitable opportunity. Also, contract employees are not eligible.

The applications are available . The deadline is June 1. Questions? Send an e-mail to staffawards@ucdavis.edu.

Citations for Excellence

Historically, the citation recipients have been recognized at Thank Goodness for Staff, held in May. This year, the nomination period has been extended through May, and the recipients will be recognized at an event to be held in August at the Chancellor’s Residence.

Also, Staff Assembly no longer excludes certain title codes from eligibility. Now, any person classified as ٺƵ career staff is eligible.

The citations honor individual employees and employee teams who have shown outstanding achievement in general contributions, campus service and-or supervision.

In addition, the committee will select one individual and one team to receive the Distinguished Citation for Excellence Awards. And these “distinguished” recipients will have their names listed on the perpetual plaque at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center and be recognized by the Council of UC Staff Assemblies.

The nomination form is available . Nominations are due by June 1. Questions? Send an e-mail to staffawards@ucdavis.edu.
