STEAK BAKE COOKS

Emeriti and staff retirees recently revived a tradition from ºÙºÙÊÓƵ' early days: the Steak Bake. Serving as chefs were, from left, Bill Rains, emeritus; Dick McCapes, emeritus; Charlie Hess, emeritus; Bob Ball, retired staff; and Bob Halferty, president of the Retirees Association. They barbecued steaks from the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Meat Lab. The June 9 event at the Rec Pool Lodge drew nearly 100 people, reported Doreen Barcellona Strnad, coordinator of the Retiree Center, which supports the Emeriti and Retirees associations. Police Chief Emeritus Calvin Handy and his Vintage Jazz Players provided the entertainment. The Retiree Center helped with the organizing, and Hess was chair of the Steak Bake Committee. The Retiree Center reports that the committee already has picked the date for next year's Steak Bake: June 7.
