Students Advised of P/NP and S/U Grading Options

Mary Croughan, provost and executive vice chancellor, and Ahmet Palazoglu, chair, Davis Division of the Academic Senate, sent the following letter to students this afternoon (Nov. 29):


Dear Students,

The Academic Senate leadership and the Provost’s Office are working together on instructional and operational challenges related to the continuing UAW strike, and how we can best support your academic success.

The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Academic Senate approved the following policy adjustments for this quarter (fall 2022):

  • Undergraduate students can opt for  through the last day of instruction (December 2, 2022) for fall 2022. No changes have been made to P/NP unit caps, and you must be in good academic standing to opt for P/NP grading. P/NP grading may not be allowed for major courses (please consult your colleges and advisors). 
  • Graduate students can submit a  through the last day of instruction (December 2, 2022) for fall 2022.

We remain hopeful that negotiations between the University of California and the UAW will find resolution very soon. Thank you for your continuing commitment to your studies and we wish you a successful quarter.
