Hey, who are those guys on the phone? They’re the student government team that created ٺƵ’ new official mobile app, created “by students for students” but also very helpful for faculty, staff and visitors.

The app, including real-time Unitrans schedules, DavisMail access and course listings by quarter, is available for free from iTunes and Google Play, for iOS and Android mobile devices.

Born as Aggie Mobile, the app made quite an impression among campus leadership, according to a notice on the Aggie Mobile site developed by Associated Students of ٺƵ. “University officials are so excited about the progress and popularity of Aggie Mobile, that they want it to formally represent the university!”

And so now it does, taking over the  name from the app developed by computer science professor Ken Joy and his students and introduced in the fall of 2010.

, which took the lead on the new app, is working with Joy to devise a system whereby students could earn course credit for developing new features for ٺƵ Mobile.

Information and Educational Technology, and the Office of Strategic Communications also participated in developing the new app and arranging for the name transfer. The process also involved the rebranding of a third mobile app: from “ٺƵ” to “ٺƵ Campus Tour,” run by Undergraduate Admissions.

The goal? To make “ٺƵ Mobile” the single app for all things ٺƵ, including , which aggregates announcements and event listings from around the campus.

The app, according to a news release from ASUCD’s Creative Media team, “seeks to engage students by providing them with the information they need when they want it” — and further enabling their participation in campus life.

Beyond Aggie Feed, the iOS and Android versions of ٺƵ Mobile also include:

  • Real-time Unitrans schedules
  • DavisMail access
  • Course listings by quarter
  • SmartSite integration
  • Campus and parking area maps

Other features listed here are available at this time only on the iOS version:
