The website is being rebuilt for undergraduates and graduate students. Effective Oct. 1, they will have a single portal to reach financial aid, accounting and the registrar, for example, along with student life programs and events.
Faculty and staff will see no change to myucdavis — except when they first sign in, when a new landing page will ask users to select which site they want: the student site or the faculty-staff site. (Student employees can toggle back and forth using the provided links.)
Students will see a new, Twitter-like which aggregates and displays announcements submitted by campus departments, and may elect to receive important alerts, such as critical hold notifications and campus WarnMe messages.
“Student input has been a hallmark of this project,” said Lora Jo Bossio, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “We started this project because of student feedback, and we’re working to make sure that our decisions are continually fueled by students’ needs and preferences. Our students are always changing; we have to be willing to do the same.”
The Division of Student Affairs collaborated on the portal with nearly 20 partners.
“To create the best experience for students, it was important that we bring together not only the administrative units but also the academic units,” said Elias Lopez, university registrar and executive director of the Student Affairs Office of Technology, whose team developed the site.
For example, the developers worked with the College of Letters and Science to integrate its new student advising portal into myucdavis. Information and Educational Technology contributed “Aggie Feed” tool (see separate story).
The Student Affairs technology team collaborated with Student Affairs Marketing and Communications to gather student input through surveys, focus groups, user tests and informal conversations. “The technology team has done an amazing job with integrating student feedback into the site,” said Nefretiri Cooley-Broughton, director of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications.
The website will continue to evolve with new applications and based on additional student feedback. Enhancements to the course search and registration tool, known as SISWeb, are planned for 2014.
