The Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music announced a joint production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! as a special event in May 2009 during the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Centennial.
Five performances are scheduled in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, with music by the ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Moschler, master of arts candidate in conducting.
Oklahoma! -- a simple tale of cowhands and farmers finding love and community in the Oklahoma territory -- opened on Broadway in 1943 and ran for a then-unprecedented 2,212 performances, later enjoying revivals, national tours and an Academy Award-winning 1955 film adaptation. Rodgers and Hammerstein received a Pulitzer Prize for Oklahoma! in 1944.
Performance times and dates: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3; 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, May 8-9; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10.
