Galindo: Student Housing
Emily Galindo has been named director of Student Housing. She has served as interim director since last September, and assumes the role on a permanent basis on June 1.
Galindo has experience in many facets of Student Housing, where she has worked since 1992. "Emily's thorough understanding of Student Housing and the challenges we will be facing make her a great match for this role," said Fred Wood, vice chancellor for Student Affairs.
Galindo has worked on campus since 1984, beginning in Central Stores.
Swanson to retire
Larry Swanson, associate athletics director of External Affairs for 20 years, has announced he will retire in June after more than three decades of service to ºÙºÙÊÓƵ, closing a tenure marked by the department's move to NCAA Division I as well as the development of TeamAGGIE and the Aggie Pack.
Swanson came to ºÙºÙÊÓƵ in 1972, spending 12 years in housing as the associate director for business. He left ºÙºÙÊÓƵ in 1984 to oversee the construction of the Chaminade Hotel in Santa Cruz. A year later, he served as the hotel's general manager.
He returned to campus in 1986 as the
athletics business manager, and moved into his role as associate athletics director in 1988.
Smith: St. Mary's College
Elizabeth Smith, director of marketing communications, has been appointed assistant vice president for College Communications at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga. As the chief communications officer for that campus, starting June 23, Smith will be responsible for marketing, media relations, strategic communications and executive communications.
In nearly three years with ºÙºÙÊÓƵ' University Communitcation, Smith developed a campuswide marketing program, oversaw the university's first comprehensive market research; created The Buzz,
a compilation of marketing talking points; and built the campus's marketing toolkit; among other activities. She is now completing an integrated marketing communication plan for ºÙºÙÊÓƵ.
