Quick Summary

  • For those considering retirement within 5 years
  • 4 sessions, one per week for 4 consecutive weeks
  • 1 track for staff, another for faculty and other academics

Registration is open for the Retiree Center’s annual course on “Transitioning to Retirement,” for staff and faculty and other academics considering retirement within the next five years.

The four-part series, all remote, will begin Friday, Jan. 14, and continue the next three Fridays, concluding Feb. 4. The course is offered in two tracks: one for staff, the other for faculty/physicians/academics.

Kyle Urban, Retiree Center director, said the course can be helpful in dealing with the life changes that accompany retirement — changes that can be unexpectedly challenging.

Here are the dates (all Fridays) and topics:

  • Jan. 14 — Introduction and UC Retirement Plan
  • Jan. 21 — Retiree health benefits and human resources considerations
  • Jan. 28 — Financial planning in retirement and Social Security
  • Feb. 4 — Work/life transitions

The sessions for staff will be from 9 a.m. to noon, and the sessions faculty/physicians/academics will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

More information is available on the registration pages:

You must register for each session you wish to attend, and the Retiree Center recommends attending all four sessions. Space is limited so early registration is advised. Supervisors will not be automatically notified when an employee registers for these workshops.

For those who cannot attend the workshops, or for those who are more than five years from retirement, online presentations and other resources are available on the Retiree Center’s .
