Undergrad Applications Hit Record 95,207

The campus has attracted a record 95,207 applicants to study as freshman or transfer students in fall 2018. This represents an increase of 7,550, or 8.6 percent, over last year.

The UC Office of the President released systemwide and campus statistics today (Dec. 14).

Among the Davis applicants, 77,727 are for freshman status and 17,480 are for transfer status.

California residents applying to be freshmen increased by 5,126, or 10 percent, over last year, and account for 72.6 percent of all freshman applicants.

Among transfer applicants, the number of California residents increased by 686, or 5.1 percent, and represent 81.2 percent of all transfer applicants.

Among California freshman applicants, 36.0 percent are from historically underrepresented groups (African American, American Indian and Chicano/Latino). The data show increases of 250, or 9.0 percent, in the number of African American applicants, and 1,625, or 10.6 percent, in Chicano/Latino applicants. 

Among transfer students coming from California community colleges, 28.8 percent are from historically underrepresented groups. There were also major gains among African American applicants (by 53, or 7.3 percent) and Chicano/Latino applicants (by 323, or 9.8 percent).

The number of American Indians increased by seven to 287 among freshman applicants but decreased by 13 to 91 among transfer applicants.

Among California freshman applicants:

  • 41.5 percent would be in the first generation of their family to graduate from a four-year university
  • 37.6 percent are from low-income families
  • 20.7 percent are from schools low on the Academic Performance Index

The numbers of students admitted and enrolled in the fall 2018 entering class will be lower than the application numbers. For fall 2017, the campus received 70,907 freshman applications and 16,750 transfer applications for a total of 87,657. A total of 30,943 freshman and 10,354 transfer applicants were offered admission. This fall, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ enrolled an entering class of 9,257 including 5,896 new freshman and 3,361 transfer students.
