Using robotics to close the achievement gap in mathematics education is the goal of a one-day symposium at the University of Redlands Feb. 24. Organized by the C-STEM Center at the University of California, Davis, in collaboration with Redlands Unified School District and the University of Redlands, the meeting will bring together teachers, administrators and other educators to share experiences and hands-on training in using coding and robotics as tools to teach math.

The ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education, or C-STEM, develops tools and curricula for using small robots to teach algebra, mathematics and programming. The center’s programs are in use in schools in California and across the country and are particularly effective in reaching children who have struggled with or disengaged from math in elementary and middle school.
All the center’s software and curricula are available through the center’s website. The C-STEM center also organizes professional development classes for teachers and summer camps at multiple locations.
The center was founded and is led by Professor Harry Cheng, ºÙºÙÊÓƵ Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
