The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District has declared a Spare the Air day for tomorrow (Sept. 30) — the second Spare the Air day in a row.
On such a day, when air quality is expected to be “unhealthy” — partly the product of high temperatures — people are encouraged to forego as much driving as possible, because less driving means less pollution from motor vehicles.
Therefore, the district encourages people to postpone errands and ride in carpools for sports and recreation activities.
Public transit is another option — and free rides are the incentive, on Unitrans and Yolobus, as well Auburn Transit, Lincoln Transit, Placer County Transit, Roseville Transit and El Dorado Transit, and on the North Natomas Transportation Management Agency shuttle.
Today’s forecast for ground-level ozone pollution, as measured by the Air Quality Index, is 161 — or “unhealthy” for everyone. The forecast for tomorrow is 151, also “unhealthy” for everyone.
